With this in mind, here is a basic overview on the topic of “Prevention of Dance Injuries”. We originally presented this topic to dancers and parents of the Rhythm Dance Academy in October 2019.

Current State
- Injury rate for dancers has been increasing:
- 1991 = 10.2/100,000 hrs
- 2007 = 12.1/100,000 hrs
- Mechanism of injury:
- 45% fall
- 25% non-contact
- 75% of injuries are lower body, most commonly foot/ankle
- 52% = the rate of injuries of strains /sprains; only 14% rate of fractures.
- Average age of injury is 13.1 years, with 40% of the cases being between age 15-19
