Fitness Assessment

Illuminating the Path to Improved Health

The goal of the CSEP Physical Activity Training for Health (PATH) fitness assessment and counselling strategy is twofold: 1) Help patients better understand their current fitness level and 2) help them make positive health changes.

  • CSEP-PATH is administered by a qualified member of the Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology (CSEP), and takes about an hour.

  • It’s a scientifically-validated, standardized fitness test that provides a comprehensive evaluation of your baseline health, cardiovascular fitness, musculoskeletal fitness, and flexibility.

  • Also used for future firefighters and paramedics as an entrance requirement for training programs.

  • Completing the CSEP-PATH will provide you with a ‘snapshot’ of your current health-related fitness, providing a foundation for your ‘action plan’ to help you reach your health goals.

The CSEP-PATH assessment is administered on over a million Canadians each year, and is great for athletes or the general population looking to understand their current fitness levels. Book yours today!

What to Expect During the Assessment

Our CSEP-PATH assessments are administered by Jane Nettleton, Exercise Physiologist.

1

Initial Consultation

Before the assessment, you'll meet with a Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology (CSEP) qualified member for an initial consultation.

During this session, we'll discuss your health history, fitness goals, and any specific concerns or limitations you may have. This information will help us tailor the assessment to meet your individual needs and ensure a safe and effective experience.

2

Fitness Assessment

The fitness assessment involves a thorough evaluation of four different aspects of fitness.

  1. It starts by testing cardiovascular fitness, measuring how well your heart and lungs work using either a graded exercise test or a submaximal assessment.

  2. Next, we test muscular strength and endurance by doing various resistance exercises to see how strong your muscles are overall.

  3. Flexibility is checked by looking at how well your joints move using specific tests to find areas that can be improved.

  4. Lastly, we measure body composition, including body fat percentage, using tools like skinfold calipers or bioelectrical impedance analysis.

3

Post-Assessment Review

Following the assessment, you'll receive a detailed report summarizing your results and highlighting areas for improvement. We will review the findings with you, discuss potential next steps, and answer any questions you may have.

Whether you're interested in enhancing your cardiovascular fitness, increasing muscular strength, or improving flexibility, we'll work together to create a personalized action plan to help you reach your goals.
